Good morning, beach volleyball fans,
As we transition from the off-season and into the pre-season of beach volleyball, the Partnership Transfer Portal, launched into full force with the teaming of Kelly Cheng and Megan Kraft, is now getting some serious velocity. On Wednesday (maybe) another major partnership is expected to be announced, by the man in the photo above.
Who will Taylor Crabb choose? Back to his brother, Trevor? Someone else? What will the ripple effects be?

We also have a few more women’s partnerships coming down the pipe, with one coming on our YouTube Channel at noon Eastern on Tuesday. Within the next month, pretty much everyone will be decided and the portal will be closed, until the AVP League qualifying series is finished and then the portal reopens for its summer window.
Speaking of the man with the biggest partnership announcement, he and his brother, Trevor Crabb, came on the pod to talk a whole lot about the state of USA Volleyball.
The week in SANDCAST Studios
This week, Tri Bourne had our most popular guests of all time on the pod, as Taylor Crabb and Trevor Crabb stopped by the studio. One thing I absolutely LOVE about the Crabbs is that they’re as genuine as they get. They just speak their mind. Taylor doesn’t have much to say; he’s just not a talker. But when he speaks? He’s as thoughtful as they come. Always enjoy pods with the Crabbs, especially when I don’t actually record them, as I get to listen like a fan. It’s worth the listen if you haven’t yet.
Lift Like a Professional Beach Player
My trainer, Nathan Michaels, is the man who saved my knees, and also turned me into a legitimate-ish professional athlete. He asked if we’d give him a platform to talk all things weight lifting and conditioning for beach volleyball, which was a 1 million percent green light. His first episode, an overview of lifting for beach volleyball, is up on our YouTube Channel and is getting quite a positive response.
News Around the Beach
- If every College Football Playoff Team was a Beach Volleyball Team. The College Football Playoff is tonight, and I had some fun with this, comparing all 12 teams in the CFP to their beach volleyball counterparts. Who’s who? Take a look. It was fun.
- Volleyball World and Dubai have made some kind of partnership. It’s called the Beach World Series, and is a five-year deal, but other than that, the details of what it is and how it works and anything of major importance are very much TBD, other than it starts this November. Very curious. Here’s the release on the partnership.
