One of the more fascinating aspects of beach volleyball is the dichotomy between how late beach volleyball players in the United States peak and how early beach volleyball players around the rest of the world peak. Tri Bourne and Travis Mewhirter had Olympic gold medalist and USC beach coach Dain Blanton on SANDCAST: Beach volleyball with Tri Bourne and Travis Mewhirter, to discuss exactly that.

In the U.S., there are players — see: Phil Dalhausser, John Hyden, Nick Lucena, Casey Patterson, Jake Gibb — who do not peak until their mid- to late-30s. Internationally, this isn’t the case.

Blanton breaks down why he thinks that’s so.
