March 24

Hello, Paradise

Good morning, beach volleyball fans,

David Schweiner and Ondrej Perusic called their gold medal run at this past weekend’s Yucatan Challenge a “paradise beginning.” Their gold medal run was flawless, not a single set dropped, and even their coach is going to have trouble finding some flaws there.

They also could have been talking about beach volleyball fans as a whole. Mexico puts on excellent events, and is a surefire top-flight host of beach volleyball tournaments: awesome crowds, beautiful venues, windy and hot conditions that are as much a part of beach volleyball as nets and lines.

It was fun to watch, and fun to be back on the mic, especially when I had the opportunity to call an All-American bronze medal match between youngsters Jaden Whitmarsh and Devon Newberry and veterans Kim Hildreth and Teegan Van Gunst. I like all four of those women so very much, so to see it come down to a thrilling third set was a joy, even if Teegan got screwed on a no-touch that was called a touch that sealed the deal. Bummer of an ending, but a fun match nonetheless.

Unintentional perfect timing was this week’s podcast guest: Dr. Jeremy Townsend, a PhD in exercise physiology who is a senior researcher at AG1. Know where you can’t get veggies?

Mexico.

Know where the Beach Pro Tour is again?

Mexico.

Bring your AG1, folks.

The week in SANDCAST Studios

This past week’s podcast featured Dr. Jeremy Townsend, a PhD in exercise physiology who breaks down everything you need to know about supplements, including the huge benefits of creatine as well as, of course, his own company, AG1, which I’ve been taking for five years or so and don’t plan on stopping.

SANDCAST U: Here Comes Texas

Madison Fitzpatrick is back on the mic with SANDCAST U, breaking down all things NCAA Beach Volleyball. This week — this was recorded after East Meets West — she talks Texas’ rise, even before they landed a stunner over No. 2 LMU on Saturday, UCLA’s dominance, FSU’s top ones pair, and more.

Film Room: Nuss-Kloth vs. Bansley-Bukovec

Film Room is back! This week, I broke down an Olympic pool play matchup between Kristen Nuss and Taryn Kloth and Heather Bansley and Sophie Bukovec, focusing mainly on the defensive tactics of Nuss and Bansley.
