Good morning, beach volleyball fans,
The end of football season marks a shift into, for beach volleyball folks, the NCAA Beach Volleyball season, which begins February 21 (Florida State will be at Southern Miss for the occasion). As most SANDCAST listeners/viewers/readers can note, when the Paris Olympic race began, and a notable absence of coverage about the Olympic race was, well, noted, we decided to launch The Road to Paris. It was easily our most successful add-on to the podcast family.
So we’re doing it again.
We’ve hired former FSU star Madison Fitzpatrick, currently a burgeoning media star covering volleyball and beach volleyball as a contractor for ESPN, to host our new NCAA Beach Volleyball show. The working name is SANDCAST U, but we’re still open.
Name aside, Madison is going to cover NCAA Beach similarly to how we did the Road to Paris, with regular — but not necessarily weekly — updates on the NCAA Beach scene: who’s playing well, who’s struggling, what pairs to watch, etc. She’s a pro in this space, and we’re fired up on it.
Just as we were fired up to have Madison in our FSU Studios for a full podcast this week.
The week in SANDCAST Studios
This past week’s podcast featured Madison Fitzpatrick, No. 7 all-time on the Florida State beach volleyball wins list who is, to me, one of the best in the business already at covering the sport of beach volleyball. She’s so good, in fact, that she basically turned the podcast into a quasi double-interview, us lobbing questions back and forth. It was a blast:
Agatha and Rebecca MIC’D UP!
As part of our growing collaboration with Volleyball World and Beach Volleyball World, we have another edition of MIC’D UP! Today features Brazilian legend Agatha and Rebecca at the Beach Pro Tour Finals, and it’ll be the last we see of Agatha for quite some time, as Doha marked her final event:

News Around the Beach
- Conference realignment hits NCAA Beach. Florida State, amongst others, is switching to the MPSF, which stands for Mountain Pacific, which tells you all you need to know about how silly all this conference stuff is. Cal and Stanford in the ATLANTIC COAST Conference for football and all the rest? Totally normal. The MPSF now includes Florida State, Washington, USC, GCU, Stanford, Oregon, Cal, UCLA, LSU, South Carolina, and Texas. By my count, at least four schools have nothing to do with pacific mountains, but here we are. Lotta talent in there.
- Volleyball World has some awesome news coming. Can’t tell you more yet, but there’s a carrot dangle for you. There is good news yet in this beach volleyball world.
- SANDCAST memberships are live. We’ve opened up memberships for anyone who wants to watch full podcast episodes on YouTube a day or two early.
- Coming up on Wednesday we have Troy Field, who talks all things AVP, League, the future of the sport. He’s one of our most popular guests of all-time, and he delivers again.
