Marcio is Spelled GOAT
Good afternoon, beach volleyball fans,
Every sport seems to have regular discussions about GOATs and legacies and unwinnable debates about who will go down as the best. This week’s podcast, with Marcio Sicoli, brought something to my attention.
Is he the greatest beach volleyball coach of all time?
He has four Olympic medals — two silver, one gold, one bronze — with three different countries and has had a long and successful and still continuing career at Pepperdine. I cannot think of a coach with a more impressive resume, which is good timing, seeing as he, fresh off a silver at the Paris Games, was this week’s podcast guest.
The week in SANDCAST Studios
This week’s podcast featured Marcio Sicoli, who I just gushed about profusely. No more need for an introduction, although I want to make sure this is mentioned: Marcio is an excellent coach, yes, but he is a better man. Delaney Mewhirter played for and coached with him for a decade. There are few individuals I respect more than Marcio, and if you take the time to listen to the podcast, you will be able to see why. Enjoy:
- Listen to the episode on Spotify
- Watch the episode on YouTube
- And share it for everyone to see and hear 🙂
AVP League Week 1 Recap
Beach Access continues, breaking down week 1 of the AVP League, where I answer the most pressing of questions: How in the world did the New York Nitro Superteam get assembled? How much are the players getting paid? If time allows, I’ll have a Week 2 recap up later today, but I still need to make runs to Home Depot, U-Haul, the bank, and every other super fun place an adult can go to.
FUN NEWS! SANDCAST and Volleyball TV are partnering up. By the end of the year, the Road to Paris will feature highlights and clips from Volleyball TV to complement the coverage. Better yet: You can get 20 percent off your VBTV subscription if you use the code SANDCAST20.
News Around the Beach
- This is my last week in California. Nine years later. Time flies. Seeing as this is such a shift in my life, it has been a subsequently reflective time of my life. I’ve begun writing a series of blogs, the nine lessons I learned in nine years in California.
- AVP League standings. If you’re keeping track of your favorite college football and NFL teams on the weekends instead of following the AVP League — How ’bout them Noles getting a win?! — I don’t blame you. Here are the standings and upcoming matchups.
- SANDCAST memberships are live. We’ve opened up memberships for anyone who wants to watch full podcast episodes on YouTube a day or two early.
- Coming up on Wednesday we’ve got Geena Urango of the SAN DIEGO SMASH. Sorry, had to all caps it, because SMASH. This is her third appearance on the podcast, and she is now 3/3 in terms of hitting a home run or an ace or touchdown or whatever sports metaphor you’d like to use.
- If you enjoy the podcast or this newsletter — or both! — we’d love it if you could share it out! Word of mouth is the best way we grow, so share the love, and as always, let us know any content you’d like to see more of (or less of) and we’ll make it happen!
