One of the admittedly many glaring holes in beach volleyball is that there are no All-Pro or All-American Awards, as there are in most any mainstream sport. Sure, the AVP has some cute superlative awards at the end of the year, with the standard MVP, Rookie of the Year, Best Offensive Player, Best Defensive Player, Best Server, among others, but there’s no distinction between the different tiers of players, as there is with the NFL, NBA, and MLB.

The boys at sought to change that.

At the season’s midpoint, I did a mid-season report, divvying out a number of superlatives, and it was cause for enough discussion that to do something similar at the end of the year was a no-brainer. But where my mid-season report consisted exclusively of my own opinion, the end-of-year All-Pro Awards were a team effort, consisting of the editors at, AVP tournament director Jeff Conover, Tri Bourne, and several other knowledgable figures in the game.
